The Competition Authority announces that, within the framework of its commitment to protecting competition and the interests of consumers, it is taking all necessary steps by conducting immediate on-the-ground monitoring of food basket product prices during the holiday season. The aim is to identify, prevent, and penalize commercial enterprises that engage in price abuse in violation of Law No. 9121/2003 “On Competition Protection”.
The Competition Authority assures citizens that it will identify and penalize any instances of artificial price increases caused by unfair competition practices.
Law No. 9121/2003 “On Competition Protection” prohibits all agreements that have as their object or consequence the obstruction, restriction, or distortion of competition in the market, particularly agreements that directly or indirectly determine purchase or sale prices or other trading terms.
The Competition Authority reminds networks of commercial undertakings that violating Law No. 9121/2003 “On the Protection of Competition” constitutes an administrative offense and is subject to a fine of up to 10 percent of the turnover of the previous financial year of the enterprises involved in illegal agreements.
