The Competition Authority immediately places under monitoring the price of bread production and trading following the entry into force of Decision no. 72, dated 15.04.2024, by the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE).
Today, on 1 November 2024, the Competition Authority, based on media reports regarding bakery announcements about bread price increases, initiated immediate on-site monitoring to identify any abusive behavior violating Law no. 9121/2003 “On Competition Protection”.
The Law no. 9121/2003 “On Competition Protection” prohibits all agreements that have as their object or consequence the prevention, restriction, or distortion of competition in the market, particularly agreements that directly or indirectly set purchase or sale prices or other trading conditions.
We remind undertakings involved in the production and trading of bread that violations of Law no. 9121/2003 “On Competition Protection” constitute administrative infringements and are subject to fines of up to 10 percent of the turnover of the previous financial year of the companies involved in illegal agreements.
