Today, the Competition Authority participated in the hearing session organized by the Committee on Civic Initiatives, Cooperation and Institutional Oversight, within the framework of the review of the draft budget for 2026. On behalf of the institution, the Chairman of the Authority, Mr. Denar Biba, presented the progress of the work, emphasizing the implementation of the tasks set by the Resolution of the Assembly for 2023.
During the reporting, it was highlighted that the CAA has conducted monitoring and investigations in the most sensitive markets of the economy, has intensified field inspections and has increased the number of decisions in all priority markets. It was also reported on the progress of merger procedures, progress in court cases and increased transparency with the public.
The session emphasized the necessity of strengthening the human and technical capacities of the institution, the problems that CAA employees face day after day due to difficult working conditions, etc. The Authority also requested the approval of the seniority increase for the members of the Competition Commission, in accordance with the law on independent institutions, emphasizing that the decision-makers of the CA bear high legal and technical responsibility and should be treated equally with analogous institutions.
In conclusion, the Competition Authority reiterated that the approval of the budget requests for 2026 will enable the institution to fully fulfill its legal obligations and the priorities set by the Albanian Parliament, guaranteeing an open, competitive and consumer-friendly market.
